Adelanto Elementary College Day

AES Goes to College!

On Friday, April the 15th, Adelanto Elementary School hosted its 1st Annual Cougar College Day!  We were visited by college students representing: UNLV, Victor Valley College, American Jewish University, and USC.  All 3rd through 6th grade students participated in researching a university as a class, or researched the university attended by their teachers.  Those universities included: University of Laverne, Cal State University Fullerton, Azusa Pacific, and many others.

Displays were set up in different classrooms for all to visit and learn about the universities that were researched.  Students were able to learn and ask questions about what it takes to apply, attend, and experience what life is like on a college campus.

Jesse Jimenez, a 6th grade student says, “I really liked how we were able to ask questions about what college is like, and what I need to do to get into college.”  Banners representing several different colleges were displayed all over campus, and every one including all Classified Staff participated in the activities.

January Writing Theme: Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2016

2016 High Desert Black Heritage Committee Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration

We hope you enjoy the pictures from the 2016 High Desert Black Heritage Committee Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration.  The event took place at the Performing Arts Center on the Victor Valley College campus.  Several AES 6th Grade students were chosen to take part in this celebration as they submitted writing samples inspired by the quote, "We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools."  We want to congratulate all AES students who participated and shared a small portion of their writing at the event on Martin Luther King Jr. Day 2016.  Their appearance on that stage really set the tone for the evening as we celebrate MLK's message of Love, Togetherness, and Hope for ALL people.

On January 22, 2016, the sixth grade classes of Mrs. Bykoski and Mrs. Vasquez of Adelanto Elementary School will be honored for their participation in the Martin Luther King Essay Contest. The High Desert Black Heritage Committee sponsors this annual contest. This year’s theme is a quote from Dr. King, “We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.”  The sixth grade classes wrote about the importance of community involvement and the sacrifices of our Veterans.  The students will receive certificates, pizza and a DJ dance party as a token of recognition.  We congratulate the students for their extra efforts to “Focus on Writing”.
