Adelanto Elementary holds first AR Pod party this year
Each month in the AES library Ms. Angela, the AES library clerk, organizes an ARPod party to celebrate reading with students. An ARPod is like a punch card for students who score 100% on an AR test. It looks like an iPod. There are 5 bubbles on the ARPod for teachers to sign when a student has scored 100% on a book he/she has read in his/her ZPD during independent reading time. Once students have had all 5 bubbles signed they can return the ARPod to the library. Each student receives 10 Cougar Cash, an invitation to the ARPod party, and a Reading Award at the Awards Assemblies throughout the school year. Once they have completed one ARPod, they get a new one. If a student turns in two ARPods while there are still seats available to the ARPod party, they can invite a friend.
Each ARPod party has a different book related theme such as Diary of a Wimpy Kid, Goosebumps, Dr. Seuss, and Harry Potter. There are 30 seats available for each party. Once a guest list has been filled, a new list is started. During the party students play games, share ideas, have snacks, and each student receives at least one book to keep.
AR Pod party is just one of the various strategies AES utilizes to motivate students and celebrate their success.
